Members of the Asia-Oceania Floorball Confederation (AOFC) convened at the World Floorball Championships in Prague to attend the IFF General Assembly, and an AOFC meeting on regional floorball development, with support from the IFF President, Mr. Tomas Eriksson and IFF Secretary General, Mr. John Liljelund.
The 15th IFF member was held in the Clarion Congress Hotel, Prague, and attended by 49 countries (38 voting members).

Modifications of the IFF statutes in relation to the Continental Confederations and to streamline the IFF Operations were approved unanimously, including changes in Legal Seat and Office, and Election Decisions, for broader gender representation, three terms of office for president and CB and maximum age of 70 years. Member associations of the IFF also confirmed future world events, including, the Women’s World Floorball Championships 2019 to be held in Neuchâtel, Switzerland from 7-15 December 2019, Men’s World Floorball Championships in Helsinki, Finland from the 4-12 December 2020, and the Women’s World Floorball Championships 2021 to be held in Uppsala, Sweden. As for the U19 events, the Men’s U19 WFC 2019 is scheduled to be held in Halifax, Canada, while the Women’s U19 WFC 2020 event is planned for Uppsala, Sweden. Ms. Wendy Kuan (Singapore), AOFC Member, was also elected to join the IFF Ethics Commission.

Mr. Eriksson emphasized that IFF operational goals is to continue to strengthen Organisational development through increasing members of the General Assembly, to build a three-step educational model and focus on grass-root development in many regions including Central Asia, to continue to Lobby for inclusion of Multi-Sport Games like OCA Indoor and martial Arts Games 2021, as well as to strengthen regional IFF Events like AOFC Cup.



Subsequently, AOFC Members met in a sub-meeting organised by Dato Seri’ Chaiyapak Siriwat, President of the AOFC. The member associations consisting of nine countries and 8 central board members, witnessed by President Tomas Eriksson, discussed the upcoming WFCQ which will be held in Bangkok from the 27 January to 1 February 2019 at Indoor Stadium Huamark, and agreed for Thailand to host the next Men’s WFCQ in 2020. Singapore has expressed interest to host the 2021 Men’s U19 WFCQ (to be held in 2020).

Dato Seri’ Chaiyapak Siriwat also highlighted recent successes in pushing Floorball to be included in the SEAgames event in the Philippines in December 2019 with both Men’s and Women’s events scheduled. Previously, floorball was included for the first time in the SEAgames 2015 held in Singapore. Additionally, he expressed his commitment to push forward the inclusion of floorball for the Asia Indoor and Martial Arts Games which Thailand will potentially host in 2021.

The next AOFC event will be held either in Shanghai or Harbin as a Men’s edition of the AOFC Cup, in the summer of 2019. Singapore will be hosting a referee development course for the regions’ referee in April/May 2019 conducted by Veli Halonen, encouraging member associations to send teams. Teams have been informed on the AOFC membership and will be informed on the bank details in January during the WFCQ. The meeting concluded on a positive note for floorball development in the region, strengthen ties within the member associations and planning ahead for future events.
